The dutch jewellery designer Martine Viergever uncovers the hidden beauty of every day things. Viergever lovingly digs up ordinary objects from kitchen drawers and dusty corners in order to elevate them to the status of jewel. Pen caps, sink stoppers and spark gun cartridges are transformed and given an unprecedented beauty, handcrafted in silver and other precious materials.
The shape remains unchanged; the function of the object is simply shifted to a place of honour: hung around the neck or pinned on the chest. ‘Things That Might As Well Be…’ is a constantly evolving collection of jewellery to which new items are consistently added.
